Yes. You can live while sparing both your wallet and the earth. But what you’ve seen in media looks very expensive, right? The “zero-waste” movement where everybody went buying hundreds of mason jars for no obvious reason. And that isn’t gonna do you nor the planet any good.

It completely depends on whoever is reading this. Maybe you’ll think “this is too much effort” or maybe you’ll be surprised that it is so easy.

Follow these very simple rules, and I guarantee you that it will reward you.

1. No impulse buying.

I know that sign seems appealing at first and you think to yourself “This will save money in the future if I buy now”. This is what they want you to think. But each time you go into a store and think about buying something you didn’t intend to, ask yourself: “Do I really need this”. Because more often than not, a few seconds reveals that it probably isn’t necessary.

Also, if your hobby is shopping; Get a new one — because girl, that ain’t sustainable at all.

2. Snacking habits

You don’t have to eat less. You don’t have to deny yourself a good meal. You don’t have to adapt that much.

Learn to recognize the difference between “bored, hm… a snack sounds good” and an actual “I am hungry”. Don’t go starving yourself, but replace the habit of going around the house looking for snacks just because you’re bored. For example, everytime you’re on your way to grab yourself something from the fridge because you felt bored, you read on page. And it won’t take long until you get home from work and pick up the book before even visiting the kitchen.

Now of course, you’re allowed to snack, but remember; don’t buy on impuls. Drink much water while maybe trying out a granola bar recipe? Or just raisins and nuts?

3. Bring out your inner child

That’s right, in this economical crisis — creativity could save you.
It’s a ton of fun and you often enjoy doing it and watching the results. I’m talking about reinventing and reusing old materials that you wanted to throw out and buy something else. For example, an old curtain could become a apron. Bottle caps and some glue could become a coaster.

So ask yourself this; If you need something, could you make it at home? Or what’s the cheapest and most sustainable way of getting it? If you no longer need something, who would want it? Or could it serve with another purpose?

Eco-minimalism is a lifestyle and a way of thinking that the influencer Shelbizleee came up with because she was tired of the media portraying zero-waste as glamourous.
